Moorish Style Decorative Arts
Moorish style decorative arts are very popular at the moment. The tradition of carving and inlaying complex patterns in these distinctive Orientalist pieces provide a lovely contrast against the aesthetic of a distinct silhouette prominent in Western traditions. They are beautiful and contribute an exotic statement to a room.
A fine example of Moorish decorative arts is this Italian made Syrian design table. It is in very good condition given the age, a major selling point. The mother-of-pearl inlaid decoration is deep, the design is complex, a remarkable demonstration of fine craftsmanship not seen in mass market examples.
Interestingly, the label underneath reads, Apollonio Manaigo e Colli Cortina, Tirolo Falegnameria artisirea speicaletta: Galanteria . This is a very interesting part of its history, revealing it was made in an Italian atelier, early 20th c, in the Syrian/Moorish style. A small, highly distinctive, desirable side table.
